The Original Living Christmas Tree

July 31st, 2009

If you really care about the environment, why not consider a living Christmas tree as opposed to a cut tree or an artificial tree? Living, potted Christmas trees are great for improving atmospheric quality; they generate pure oxygen, whilst removing harmful greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide. Also, the growing process provides birds and other wildlife with a natural habitat.

Most potted living Christmas trees are grown in their pots on Christmas tree farms and then distributed to garden centres and major supermarket chains for sale, or such trees may also be bought directly from a farm. After purchase, the living Christmas tree may be kept inside or outside in their pot over the festive season, and then they can be re-potted and placed on the patio or planted in the garden.

There are many species of potted living Christmas trees, and whilst these rarely grow above 3 or 4 feet, they look lovely with fairy Christmas lights and other decorations. As well as being environmentally friendly, the living Christmas tree poses none of the usual problems associated with a real tree, such as dropping needles. Remember though, the potted Christmas tree is alive and needs looking after, just like any other houseplant – keep away from direct heat sources and water regularly for best results. If you want a living Christmas tree without the hassle of caring for it afterwards, why not consider hiring one?

There are several companies in the UK that hire out live trees and then collect after the festive season is over, all for a modest fee. Or you may like to buy one and leave it in your back yard, then bring it inside for Christmas.
